Megagribix- I use plain old PVC/PVA glue to give them a bit of rigidity when I stick them together. It's along the lines of: Coat the pin, slide on beads, cut pin to length then attach it to wherever it's meant to go. I'm using the longer dressmaker pins to make about 7-8 at a time as doing them individually is...tedious

Trystero- I'm going to pick up the XPS on the way home from work tomorrow- have to give an oral presentation post-placement and there's a Bunnings within walking distance from there. Sequins and beads are a very unsung hobbying hero- adding in the small details here and there just add to the realism!

Still not free yet (soon...soon...) but one does need to take breaks here and there. I've made the beginnings of smaller terrain as I don't have the time as yet to commit to larger things. Plan #3 is to make a mold of this as cutting things straight has never been my strong suit and it minimizes accidental jabbing myself with a hobby knife. It's thick card, some balsa and ABS square-corner sticks.

I'm also thinking of using the longer dress pins to make gratuitously unnecessary stacks of bottles and have them in the process of tipping over (curse those clumsy Urkin!)

They look awesome, I love the varied shapes, keep up the good work :)

Just a note about cutting pins to people that are going to try this; they're often made of hardened steel and so cutting them in half tends to send them rocketing off in a random direction with a fair bit of force. Eye protection wouldn't be a bad thing to have but failing that try to secure both ends as best you can as you cut through.

Oh yeah, definitely ensure they're secured properly or you clip them in a small box. There is a tendency to snap off and DISAPPEAR...until you find them after frantic searching. PPE is recommended- eye goggles and overspecs (safety goggles that go over glasses) are handy to have.

I forgot to get the XPS  and had some unexpected expenses happen of this week, so I'm using these early days to make MOAR BOTTLES!!!1!!one!!

The assorted colour glass beads and plastic bugle ones arrived too, and quite honestly, the more natural colours seem better suited to this than the more pure coloured ones. Or maybe I just like yellow-greens and cyans.

I'm going to create a bunch of these 'strings' of potions so I can speed up production and have a stock for terrain building. Might giveaway excess at Cancon next year if I make it as THERE ARE SO MANY BEADS. Seriously, if anyone is thinking of buying their own, 200g is FAR, FAR MORE THAN ENOUGH.

Once the pay hits, I'll be casting bricks and cutting XPS before you know it

I can mail down a bunch of beads and pins if you'd like  I've far too many.

For sizes: There's 2mm brown beads for lids, 3mm and 4mm beads for the bottles. In the world of Haberdashery, they're size 11/0, 8/0 and 6/0 respectively or at least the ebay listings state as such

Not really a fan of the oval beads if I'm honest, they're just a bit too long so I'll try and find a use for the bunch I have (power cores?). The 3mm bead bottles seem a bit more in scale, but c'mon, what mad scientist doesn't make strange concoctions in 20L containers? :P

Pins are 12mm sequin pins from RIOT! art and the longer dressmaker pins are 50mm silver dress pins

Thanks Trystero

The new colours break up the monotony and add a bit more realism, I think. The R/B/G/O ones might be the main ones for shelves, while the ones on benches and such will be the other ones.

Hobby Status Update: I know I said I'd a) Get the XPS and b) Get the MDF
but I said these things before my leave hit in full force and that time is up as of tomorrow afternoon. Most of my time off was sleeping, video gaming, book buying (and reading) and catching up on things. On the upside, I have made over 800 bottles for terrain pieces and I don't think that's enough. I still haven't seen Wonder Woman :o

I would recommend for those attempting to make them to use the dressmaker pins (bought from the same ebay store) as the sequin pins have been proving very hard to clip through. Plus they're a pain to thread beads through and you only can make 2 from one pin, as opposed to 4-7 from a dressmaker pin.

Back to terrain, I need to get the hirst arts molds out of storage. They're...somewhere (unless Dodger's nicked them)
