Maria Poppets

Post by PeteDG » Sat Apr 15, 2017 2:45 pm

Hi All,
Just getting the ball rolling!

As I am currently working on the rules for the Egyptians and Guild of Harmony it's time to begin painting up some demo game minis so I can playtest with them. First cab off the rank is Maria from the Guild of Harmony.
Image
I've mostly built her but am currently trying to decide whether to attach the umbrella now or leave it off for easy handling.
She'll be done to a good tabletop standard - no need for display quality here!
I'm a bit of an odd painter I think as I tend to like my minis on normal bases for handling. I get the theory behind the handles and whatnot but every time I've tried one it makes my painting worse (and that isn't a good thing  )
I'll update this thread as I go. It might take some time though as my painting time is a little stretched at present (for obvious reasons).
Cheers
Pete

I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint this one, Pete. What colours are you thinking of using? I did that purple one a while back, but the black dress version on the Guild of Harmony Faction Box artwork looks pretty cool! :D

I was thinking of a grey dress with some popping bits of colour. Maybe toss a bit of green in the grey?

Nice one Pete, I'll be watching with interest......no pressure!
I really should give them a go myself.

Hi all,
A small update:
After much deliberation I decided to build her completely prior to painting. As she's for demo games I have added some putty to her umbrella attachment point to make it more durable. There are a couple of sneaky mould lines in this pic too that I just spotted! I'll clean them up as well.

It's a bit rugged at the moment but I'll tidy it up and perhaps add a few details when the first layer has set.
Cheers
Pete

I know it's a bit early Pete, but any thoughts yet on basing?

Something simple. Probably my usual plasticard cobblestone one :-)

More progress:
Undercoated using GW Eshin Grey. Coat then painted using a mix of GW Incubi Darkness, Castellan Green and a touch of Squig Orange.
Petticoats base coated with GW Steel Legion Drab and frilly, lacy stuff done with GW Zandri Dust. Skin just GW Ratskin Flesh.

I tend to mass in most of the colours on my minis then refine them later. It helps me get a sense of how the mini balances before I get too far.
Not quite sure what to do with her umbrella at the moment though. :)
